Takeaways, Implications and the Road Ahead

On 26 January, the North Sea countries will convene again for the North Sea Summit – one of the key political moments for Europe’s offshore wind sector. With the growing relevance of cross-border cooperation in energy, industry policy and security, the outcomes of this summit will directly shape Germany’s legally defined offshore wind expansion pathway.

To ensure a rapid and well-founded assessment, the Bundesverband Windenergie Offshore (BWO) will host a concise online debrief.

Together with expert colleagues from other major European markets, BWO Chairwoman Irina Lucke will discuss:

  • What concrete decisions were taken – and what do they mean for grid development, security of supply and accelerated offshore planning?
  • How other markets position themselves after their own auction experiences and industrial policy adjustments
  • Opportunities for joint projects: hybrid interconnectors, security-by-design approaches, and resilience of the European supply chain
  • What expectations the offshore wind sector now directs towards German policymakers

The aim of the session is to provide an informed, transnational perspective on the summit’s political signals and feed them straight into BWO’s ongoing policy work.
