Power-to-X & Offshore Wind - A common future in the energy transition

The expert conference sees significantly greater potential in offshore for generating green energy than the federal government is planning.
21 November 2018

On Tuesday, November 20, at the invitation of the Federal Association of Wind Farm Operators Offshore eV (BWO), around 100 experts came together in Berlin on the subject of "Power-to-X & Offshore Wind - A common future in the energy transition". The use of “Power-to-X” technologies is currently being discussed in political Berlin as an additional route to a successful energy transition. The current draft of the Energy Collection Act also includes wind farms without a grid connection and special energy generation areas for the production of hydrogen from offshore wind farms. “Offshore wind energy has huge potential. The various Power-to-X technologies can ensure that this potential is fully exploited. "Explains Uwe Knickrehm, Managing Director of the BWO," we have set important impulses for this with our event. "

In principle, electricity from offshore wind can deliver significantly more green energy than is the case according to current planning. Mr. Knickrehm called on politicians to work out a roadmap for the development of Power-to-X technologies, with the help of which lighthouse projects can be designed for different applications.

The speakers also included, Dr. Matthias Deutsch (project manager on the topics of sector coupling of electricity, heat and storage at Agora Energiewende), Lex Hartman (member of the management board of TenneT TSO GmbH), Dr. Carsten Rolle (Managing Director, World Energy Council - Germany eV), Prof. Dr. Kurt Wagemann (Managing Director of DECHEMA Society for Chemical Technology and Biotechnology eV), Dr. Vigen Nikogosian (Head of Market and Regulation, E-Bridge) and Jörgen Thiele (Board Member, OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY Foundation).
