Only hydrogen from renewable energies is sustainable

14 April 2021

“It is important that we make progress with the framework conditions for a green hydrogen economy - this of course also includes an appropriate infrastructure. In this respect, it is good that the Bundestag is dealing with the issue.

The focus of all regulatory measures should clearly be on green hydrogen, since only hydrogen from renewable energies is sustainable. It also makes sense that the draft law should strengthen the principle of “use instead of regulation”. This new possibility of utilizing previously unused electricity from renewable energies brings us another decisive step further in the energy transition. "
(Stefan Thimm, Managing Director of the Federal Association of Wind Farm Operators Offshore eV)

Hintergrund:

The "Draft of a law for the implementation of Union law requirements and for the regulation of pure hydrogen networks in energy law" (EnWG amendment) is the subject of a public hearing by the Committee for Economic Affairs and Energy today. The central point of contention will be how to finance new hydrogen networks.

The BWO had already issued a statement on the draft of the EnWG amendment in January. You can find the full document here. Further information and documents on the subject of "Offshore Wind and Hydrogen" can be found on our Home.
