BWO welcomes the planned EEG definition of green hydrogen

17 May 2021

“With the draft regulation, the Federal Ministry of Economics lays the foundation for the exemption of green hydrogen from the EEG surcharge - an absolutely correct and important step. During this legislature, the production of green hydrogen in Germany must be stimulated and a level playing field must be ensured. In our opinion, however, there is no reason for a limitation to 6.000 full hours of full use, as this unnecessarily limits the economic efficiency of the electrolysers. "

Hintergrund:

Last week, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) submitted the draft of an article ordinance for the implementation of the EEG 2021 in the state and association hearing. The ordinance defines, among other things, requirements for “green hydrogen” for exemption from the EEG surcharge and should come into force in June. With the envisaged exemption from the EEG surcharge for electrolysers, the production of green hydrogen in Germany is to be promoted, provided that it can be proven that they use green electricity for the production of hydrogen.
