Assumptions about electricity demand urgently need to be corrected

BWO managing director, Stefan Thimm, comments on the EEG amendment
30 October 2020

“Anchoring the new climate targets is an important step. However, the federal government urgently needs to revise its assumptions about future electricity demand upwards. The further expansion of renewable energies is defined as a question of “public safety”, but at the same time the expansion targets are based on forecasts that are too low. Defining goals is a good place to start. But the way to get there is crucial. What the industry needs now are above all a reliable regulatory framework and stable financing conditions. "(Stefan Thimm, Managing Director of the Federal Association of Wind Farm Operators Offshore eV)

As part of the consultation process, the BWO issued a statement on the draft EEG amendment to the Federal Ministry of Economics in September. Today the first reading took place in the Bundestag. You can find the statement as well as further press information on the EEG amendment here.
