The offshore wind industry can make a greater contribution to achieving the national climate targets!

BWO and offshore wind industry with a proposal for a special contribution from offshore wind energy.
September 3, 2019

In a joint paper to politicians, authorities and associations, the BWO and other representatives of the offshore industry proposed the implementation of the special contribution from offshore wind energy. The joint declaration is intended both as an urgent appeal and as a constructive impetus to respond to the stagnant expansion of renewable energies and still achieve the endangered climate targets by 2030.

The BWO and the other signatories declare, among other things, that the commissioning of additional projects with an installed capacity of up to 2 GW before 2026 is technically, economically and also feasible from the point of view of the transmission system operator. It is also pointed out that the legal prerequisites must be created this year to implement the special contribution, which was originally planned as a short-term measure. The special contribution wind energy at sea can both contribute to closing the gap in the expansion of renewable energies as well as alleviating the "thread break" that has already occurred in the domestic expansion of offshore wind energy and securing threatened jobs.

In addition, the BWO's call for the expansion targets to be raised to at least 2030 GW by 20 in order to achieve the climate protection targets and to meet the expansion targets for renewable energies by 65 percent by 2030 will be renewed. This is seen as an important and overdue signal from politics.
