Offshore industry: New expansion targets offer great opportunities

Companies see homework for themselves and politicians and offer close cooperation

On the initiative of the Federal Association of Wind Farm Operators Offshore eV (BWO), the first industry summit for offshore wind energy companies took place yesterday, Monday. During the online conference, all stakeholders emphasized their willingness to quickly set the necessary course to achieve the new offshore expansion goals and to coordinate closely to achieve this. All participants at the industry summit agreed: The investments associated with the expansion represent a great opportunity for the economy, for employees and, last but not least, for the coastal regions.

But it is also clear that the ambitious goals can only be achieved together. Numerous prerequisites for the achievement of goals can only be created in close cooperation with politicians. Industry and politics have to do their homework. Accelerating the approval procedures for offshore grid connections and offshore wind farms as well as for onshore grid expansion is key. In addition, Germany is in an international competition for resources. These include, for example, raw materials, production, ship and port capacities as well as skilled workers.

Politicians are responsible for creating a stable framework so that the investments necessary to secure resources can be made. Investments of the required magnitude often only pay off after decades. The essential prerequisites for this are early planning and investment security and long-term reliability.

BWO CEO Sven Utermöhlen: "We want to talk about that - in the industry and with politics."
