New study: Offshore wind industry with 9 billion euros in sales and 24.500 jobs

The industry, which operates throughout Germany, is stagnating under the current expansion target
June 11, 2019

The offshore wind industry currently has around 24.500 jobs in Germany and last year generated a total of 9 billion euros in sales. This is the result of the comprehensive analysis of the new wind: research study of more than 3.000 market participants across the entire wind industry, all stages of the value chain and regions. In 2016 there were around 27.000 jobs in the offshore wind industry. A broad group of market participants from the offshore industry contributed to the preparation of the study.

The south also benefits greatly from the offshore industry

The distribution shows clear priorities in the south and west: For example, Baden-Württemberg dominates in research and development as well as in engineering and North Rhine-Westphalia in the components area. If the current expansion targets are not adjusted, the industry is at risk of losing over 8.000 jobs. In contrast, if the expansion target is increased, the number of jobs can increase by up to 10.000.
