BWO welcomes the increased expansion volume to 20 GW

September 20, 2019

Regarding reports that the climate cabinet would decide to increase the expansion targets for offshore wind energy to 20 GW for the year 2030, the Federal Association of Wind Farm Operators Offshore (BWO) explains: The planned increase in the expansion cap by 5 GW in the German North and Baltic Seas is the same to be welcomed as overdue. Even if 20 GW of installed offshore capacity in 2030 cannot save the energy transition alone, increasing the expansion targets is still an important step towards achieving the target of 65% renewable energies in the same year.

Now the most important thing will be to bring the operators of offshore wind farms, the transmission system operators and federal and state governments together as quickly as possible in order to start implementation together. "The operators of the offshore wind farms and their association, the BWO, have proposed such a round for a long time and stand for a constructive cooperation spit by foot", said the managing director of the BWO, Uwe Knickrehm, today in Berlin.
