Paradigm shift in offshore wind energy: the first subsidy-free projects increase the pressure to move in grid expansion, highest bid at 6,0 cents per kilowatt hour.
13 April 2017

Today the Federal Network Agency published the results of the first round of tenders for offshore wind energy. The dramatically reduced prices due to the bids to a maximum of 6,0 cents per kilowatt hour primarily reflect the rapidly falling costs in the industry due to industrialization and a steep learning curve. A large part of the projects awarded today should even be implemented between 2021 and 2025 without any funding; the lowest hammer price was 0,0 cents per kilowatt hour. This means that due to the future expansion of offshore wind farms after 2020, electricity customers will hardly have to pay for additional EEG subsidies for new offshore wind farms.
