Hydrogen is essential — but only the green type

BWO issues an opinion on the new EnWG
28 January 2021

“The EnWG creates a regulatory framework for the development of a hydrogen infrastructure in Germany and thus recognizes the fundamental importance of hydrogen as an important future energy carrier. In order to avoid lock-in effects, however, the focus must be on green hydrogen right from the start. Because only with the help of hydrogen from renewable energy sources can we achieve our common European goal of complete decarbonization by 2050. "
(Stefan Thimm, Managing Director of the Federal Association of Wind Farm Operators Offshore eV)

As part of the consultation process, the BWO issued a statement on the draft of the new Energy Industry Act (EnWG) to the BMWi. In addition to regulatory conditions for building a hydrogen economy in Germany, this also addresses a clarification of Section 17e EnWG on compensation for network failures. The aim is, among other things, a more transparent delimitation of disruptions and maintenance of the grid connection of offshore wind farms.
