Stefan Thimm new managing director of the BWO

15 January 2020

Stefan Thimm (44) is the new managing director of the Federal Association of Wind Farm Operators Offshore eV (BWO). The political scientist has been running the association since January 01st, following a unanimous vote by the members. He succeeds Uwe Knickrehm, who has headed the BWO since 2015.

"This year, with the implementation of the increased expansion targets for offshore wind energy to 20 GW and looking beyond the year 2030, important political decisions are pending," said Thimm. “Politicians now have to follow suit and submit a strategy for achieving the ambitious expansion target as quickly as possible and thus create planning security for the offshore industry. In addition, the necessary further development of the funding system for renewable energies must be implemented. This would allow savings and thus relief for end consumers in the three-digit million range. We at BWO will address these and other topics at our conference 'Future Offshore' at the beginning of March. "

Before joining the offshore association, Stefan Thimm had been with the German Association of Energy and Water Management (BDEW) since 2002, and since 2009 as head of the 'Renewable Energies' department.

“We are pleased to be able to win Stefan Thimm, a proven expert in the energy industry, as managing director,” said Catrin Jung, Chairwoman of the BWO. “Under his leadership, we can continue to pursue the growth path set out under Uwe Knickrehm and, with the BWO, offer an appropriate forum for the numerous topics of constantly growing electricity generation at sea.”
