Offshore generation capacity Figures for 2022 – push ahead with expansion now!

Offshore generation capacity has fallen slightly - but the near future will bring more terawatt hours from offshore wind energy - push ahead with expansion now!

The slow expansion of offshore wind turbines is also reflected in the current figures from the transmission system operator TenneT. Accordingly, the terawatt hours of power generation from the North Sea will increase from 20,03 (2021) to 21,13 (2022). However, the percentage of offshore wind energy in total wind energy fell to 16,9 (2021: 17,8%). “Offshore wind energy is already proving its stability for the energy supply, but it is only now that expansion is picking up again that the full potential of wind energy at sea will become clear. The new planned projects will significantly increase production in the future and make themselves felt in the balance sheet. It is therefore now important to identify further areas and to make the expansion a win for everyone in terms of industrial policy," explains BWO Managing Director Stefan Thimm.
