European port strategy to focus on the energy transition urgently needed!
-
On the occasion of the application "Strengthening Germany as a port location" discussed today in the Transport Committee of the German Bundestag, BWO Managing Director Stephen Thimm came out: “Ports must be promoted in a coordinated manner, especially with regard to their importance for the energy transition in offshore wind energy. Only if the European ports mesh like gears can we manage to expand to 30 GW by 2030.”
The high investments that are necessary for the expansion of the German ports, also with regard to the expansion of the storage areas, must be made as soon as possible. Stephen Thimm comments: “The ports are of central importance for offshore wind energy. For the expansion, the systems are delivered here, assembled and then transported on the ships. But also for the maintenance and service of the offshore wind turbines, the ports will continue to be and will be asked to do even more than before. The energy transition at sea will only take place with a well-functioning port infrastructure.”
