Despite some untapped potential for offshore wind energy, space in the North and Baltic Seas is limited. Conflicts of interest are increasingly emerging. Maritime spatial planning deals with the question of which areas are suitable for which use - including wind energy at sea. In the spatial plan, for example, areas are designated as reserved or priority areas for a specific use. The spatial planning is a decisive instrument for the long-term development of offshore wind energy.
