The B.W.O.
The BWO is the political representative body for the offshore wind industry in Germany. We pool the professional expertise of companies along the entire value chain, from manufacturers and developers to operators and service providers in the offshore wind energy sector. The BWO is committed to advocating for the political, regulatory, and economic interests of the industry. conditions for the expansion of offshore wind energy in line with the energy transition structuresThe BWO is the central point of contact for political actors at the state and federal levels on all matters relating to offshore wind energy. The BWO evaluates current developments and analyzes the consequences of future regulatory frameworks.
North Sea Energy cooperation
North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC)
The North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC) supports the expansion of offshore wind energy and the network infrastructure at sea through cross-border cooperation between currently 9 European countries and the EU Commission. After the UK left the EU on January 31, 2020, the member states will include Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. The focus of the cooperation lies in the development of cross-border offshore wind and grid projects (hybrid projects). The aim is to reduce the costs and space requirements of offshore projects through cross-border cooperation.
The federal government is currently in the process of interdepartmental coordination on the national port strategy. The BWO has written an opinion and statement on this.
Thimm: Belgium should use the chairmanship of the North Sea cooperation for further initiatives
“With the idea of an“ EU Enabling Framework ”for hybrid offshore wind projects, Germany has already given an important impetus. Belgium should now use the chairmanship of the North Sea Energy Cooperation ", said Stefan Thimm, the BWO managing director.
BWO managing director comments on NSEC ministerial meeting
“At today's ministerial meeting of the North Sea Energy Cooperation (NSEC), the key role of offshore wind energy in achieving the climate goals was correctly recognized. The next step is now to pour the agreed points for the implementation of cross-border projects into a specific regulatory framework as quickly as possible, "says Stefan Thimm, Managing Director of the BWO.
Start of the German EU Council Presidency
“It is right and important that the key role of offshore wind energy in achieving climate goals is recognized and taken into account in the program of the German EU Council Presidency. Europe offers great potential for renewable energies and offshore wind energy can deliver electricity more reliably and cost-effectively than almost any other generation technology,” explains Catrin Jung, Chairwoman of the Federal Association of Offshore Wind Farm Operators (BWO).
