Optimal overplanting - What are ideal overplanting values for offshore wind energy?

The BWO-EXPERTISE provides a compact overview of the results and key findings of a recent study by Frontier Economics analyzing optimal development values for offshore wind energy.

We welcome the following speakers: Dr. Matthias Janssen, Executive Director, and Gregor Braendle, Senior Consultant at Frontier Economics, which provide an insight into the methodology and the key findings of the study.

Increasing efficiency through development and peak shaving is a key issue for the offshore wind industry and for the updating of the area development plan (FEP). The industry is critical of rigid and blanket regulatory requirements and advocates for an area-specific approach.

The central question is what constitutes economically optimal development levels for offshore wind energy, taking into account both the business perspective and the impact on the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE). The study's findings will help prevent one-sided burdens, ensure planning certainty for developers, and enable the cost-effective expansion of offshore wind energy.
